Al Staehely's roots in the Austin music scene combined with his experience writing and collaborating with artists in Los Angeles (most notably as front man in the psychedelic rock band Spirit) have allowed him to create a sound all his own. Seamlessly blending classic rock, soulful blues with a commanding stage presence, Al is just at home playing intimate solo shows with an acoustic guitar on his knee as he is taking center stage at a rock show. Al's engaging lyrics and creative melodies have peaked the interest of other artists who have recorded his songs- Keith Moon (The Who), Marty Balin (Jefferson Airplane), Peter Cox (Go West), The Nick Gravenites/John Cipollina Band, as well as performers from his own back yard, most recently Houston R&B vocalist Annika Chambers.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 20

JOHN EVANS CD RELEASE PARTY

8:00PM TO 10:00PM

GENRE: TEXAS TROUBADOUR / ROCKABILLY

$5.00

Standing at six-foot-five, adorned in polyester, with a smile on his face and sparkle in his eyes, Texas-born musician John Evans is hard to miss when he takes the stage. Big hair, horn-rimmed glasses, bell-bottoms and vintage cowboy boots may be part of his iconic look, but it’s his contagious energy and memorable sound that captures the audience. As a performer, if Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly and Elvis Costello were to have a love child, John Evans might just be it. But it is also his songwriting that has built his legacy over the past 20 years as a troubadour in the great state of Texas. Music runs deep in this man’s blood, and with just a tiny bit of whiskey (or wine!) to make it flow even better, Evans is embarking on a new acoustic album and a new chapter that will go down easy, with or without a shot.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 28

STEVE KRASE BAND

8:00PM TO 10:00PM

GENRE: BLUES / ROCK / HARMONICA

$5.00
Steve Krase was born in Brooklyn, NY and has spent time in Ohio, California and Louisiana. Now almost 30 years in Houston, Krase has blended his high-energy style with the soulful vibe that runs through the great city. “The Houston scene is extremely diverse in the different types of music that is available here,” he described. “Houston has a long history and tradition of Blues. In my 30 years here, I have had the opportunity to play and learn from some of the greats.” Not long ago, you could see Blues icons like Joe Guitar Hughes, Texas Johnny Brown, Grady Gaines, Lil Joe Washington, and other perform all in the same night. Krase is completely self-taught, but gained numerous musical mentors during his time in Houston, including Trudy Lynn, the late Pete Mayes, Jerry Lightfoot, and Big Walter the Thunderbird.
The Houston Press has nominated Steve Krase Band for Best Blues Band five times, Best Instrumentalist twice, and Best Player in 2016.
